In Frontiers in Public Health, Nova Fellow Brita Roy and coauthors discuss how community-based systems dynamics can inform public health interventions.
Scientists are increasingly turning to systems science to map the complex interaction of factors that affect health and turn insights into actionable solutions. This case study highlights how combining two methods—community-based system dynamics and design thinking—can help improve connections between community and clinical care in Brooklyn, New York. The study explains how the methods were used together and what was learned. This combined approach revealed insights at both the system and personal levels that were turned into practical steps for planning, implementing, and maintaining public health improvements.
