In the Journal of Medical Internet Research, Nova Scholar Claudia Witt and co-authors examine user engagement with mobile health apps in people with cancer. While apps with human support typically garner higher levels of engagement, they reduce scalability opportunities. This study looked at user engagement with an app with fully automated social components to counter the lack of human support. The results found that these automated social elements may have effectively compensated for the lack of human involvement.
