In npj Digital Medicine, Nova Scholar Claudia Witt and coauthors explore the impact of a mobile mindfulness and relaxation app on the mental health of people with cancer.
This study involved 210 German-speaking adults who had been diagnosed with cancer in the past five years and were experiencing high levels of distress. Participants were randomly assigned to either use the app or be in a waitlist control group. After ten weeks, those who used the app showed significantly greater improvements in anxiety, depression, distress, well-being, and self-regulation compared to those who did not. This study suggests that similar apps can be effective tools to support the mental health of people with cancer.
