Alan Logan and Nova Scholar Susan Prescott‘s recent article, “Planetary Health: We Need to Talk About Narcissism,” argues for a spotlight on collective narcissism, and the antidote of empathy, on the planetary health agenda. They assert that the prevalence of narcissism is increasing on both individual and collective levels, contributing to attitudes and behaviors that undermine health at all scales. Recognized as an important and health part of relationships between people and nature, empathy must be elevated and the large-scale inclusion of personality traits in research should be considered a critical component in advancing planetary health.
