In JAMA Network Open, Nova Scholar Christina Bethell and coauthors explore the economic and health impact of positive childhood experiences.
Childhood experiences affect neurological development and lifelong health. While extensive research supports the lasting negative impact of adverse childhood experiences on health, emerging research increasingly shows how positive childhood experiences (PCEs) can benefit lifelong health. In this cross-sectional study, authors used the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey data from four states to assess previously unexamined health outcomes related to PCEs and measure associated economic benefits.
