This work by Nova Scholars Rebecca Etz and Kurt Stange and colleagues highlights the integral role primary care has played during the COVID-19 pandemic and growing mental health crisis. Beginning in 2020, The Larry A. Green Center collected thousands of surveys from primary care providers revealing the many areas of increasing patient need. Findings report that most physicians became more involved in providing mental health support, especially with the increased use of Telehealth services — both phone and video — that have helped provide more equitable access to care.
