In the Annals of Family Medicine, Nova Scholars Kurt Stange and Rebecca Etz and colleagues discuss how telemedicine emerged as an important tool for primary care during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how some challenges prevented effective adoption and implementation. Informed through tens of thousands of responses to weekly COVID-19 Primary Care Surveys, initial uptake of telemedicine tools was slow due to poor infrastructure and reimbursement, but telemedicine is now an important tool for clinics nationwide. This work highlights further opportunities to support primary care providers’ ability to learn and adapt with technology.
